Contractor Branding Update Case Study
Keep your branding simple and easy to read
The old logo is on the top, the updated brand on the bottom. Mainstream Electric was adding heating and cooling to the services they offer. This was a great time to look at their brand and determine if a refresh or update would be beneficial.
ZAPP was well established as the brand’s character
There was a lot of brand equity in the character, so the refresh needed to retain it. We added dimension and more color. We dropped the frenetic lines from the arms and legs. We would be adding two new services, so the elements needed to be simplified, the old logo was already too busy.
Modernize the brand
The days of heavy drop shadows and too many visual elements had come and gone. In the old logo there were five elements. 1. The Zapp character. 2. The electrical cord and plug. 3. The lightning bolt. 4. The company name. 5. The black bar with the tagline. All these elements are too much for a viewer to take in at a quick glance. Think about your truck going down the highway at 55 miles per hour–it’s too much to take in at a glance. People won’t take time to figure out what it says unless it can happen quickly. The new logo was truncated to three elements: 1. Zapp. 2. Company name. 3. Services. The Zapp character was turned to face the other elements instead of turning his back on them.
Once we had the new brand developed, we deployed it on key company communication vehicles
Truck graphics, business cards, print collateral and more. A style guide was developed to use the new logo and brand elements in a consistent manner. We also created a vertical version of the logo. The result is an easy to read brand that is modern and can be applied to any company communications to build brand awareness.
